- Happy Senior Pet Appreciation Month! Did you know that our pets are considered senior citizens once they reach the age of nine? Senior dogs, like senior people, require more regular doctor’s appointments as they get older to verify that they are not suffering from any underlying ailments. Routine examinations and blood tests performed once every six months are crucial instruments in maintaining the health of our elderly dogs. Cats and dogs are excellent at disguising the indications of sickness, and they may not exhibit any signs of illness until the condition has progressed to a dangerous level of severity. As pet owners, it might be difficult to notice these changes because they occur gradually over time. You should schedule an appointment with us right away if you see any changes in your senior pet, or if it has been some time since they have seen a veterinarian for a check-up and examination. Early intervention may make a significant difference in ensuring that they have a healthy and happy life! The final question is: what is a button? Do you prefer dogs or cats as pets? When it comes down to just appearances, it can be difficult to tell what these lumps are made of.
Anywhere on the body can be affected by these parasites.
Testing for lipomas (fatty lumps) or more serious conditions such as sarcomas must be done as soon as they appear in order to determine whether they are lipomas or more serious conditions such as sarcomas.

cancerawarenessmonthcancerawareness A strange lump or bump on your pet’s body has been developing for some time.
You should get them evaluated using a procedure known as “fine needle aspiration” to establish whether or not the lumps are benign or indicative of anything more dangerous.
In order to create a “suction effect,” the plunger of the needle is drawn back, which draws out and aspirates fluid or cell tissue.
A microscopist will next examine the lump under a microscope to identify exactly what is occurring at the cellular level within it!

- Was it ever brought to your attention that our pets are considered seniors once they reach the age of nine?
- This is to ensure that they do not have any underlying medical conditions.
- Cats and dogs are excellent at concealing disease signs, and they may not show any signs of illness until the disease has progressed significantly.
- You should schedule an appointment as soon as possible if you notice any changes in your senior pet, or if it has been some time since they have been seen for a check-up.
- The ultimate question is: what is the button?

We’re a little bit different.
When we took over the practice in 2017, we set out to establish a practice that was distinct from the previous one. You wanted a clinic that didn’t simply have qualified, skilled vets with sophisticated gadgets, but also one that made you feel good when you stepped through its doors. One in which you could have open and honest talks about your pet with individuals who genuinely cared about you and respected your point of view. Another plus: one that didn’t make you pay for every little item. If we weren’t veterinarians, this is the type of practice where we’d take our dogs.
The short answer is (almost always) NO.
The lengthier answer necessitates the determination of two factors:
If a bird appears to be hurt (e.g., there is blood or wounds visible, or a broken limb), it should be evaluated to determine whether it requires care or compassionate euthanasia. Take note that being unable to fly, especially if the bird is fluttering and attempting to hop away from you, is not always indicative of an injury. You’re often dealing with a youngster (see next).
Nestling or fledgling?
A nestling is a young bird that should still be residing in its nest at the time of this writing. Nestlings are not coated in the usual feathers of their parents. They may be bald or covered in down feathers, or they may have a few little ‘pin’ feathers poking out from below. Nestlings are unable to perch (grip onto a branch or finger with their feet). A fledgling is a newborn bird that has recently left the nest but is unable to fly due to its inability to fly at this time. Fledgings account for the great bulk of the birds that are brought in to us.
In order to take off and land, they must spend several days (or possibly several weeks) hopping around, flapping, and preparing their muscles and coordination.
What’s the best way to help?
A bird that appears to be wounded should be taken to a veterinarian. You can take the bird to a veterinarian or contact Wildlife Victoria (03 8400 7300). A fledgling should be returned to its nest as soon as possible since its parents will provide it with the best chance (and maybe the only chance) of survival. Look for a nest in the neighboring trees or shrubs – most of them are rather well disguised. If you locate the nest (and are able to securely access it), place the bird back in it. If you don’t have one, you can hang a box or basket (lined with little tissue or broken up newspaper) from a nearby branch.
- Keep an eye out from a distance (ideally inside) for the following 2 hours to see whether the child’s parents come across him or her.
- We wish to provide the parents with every opportunity to raise their child.
- The great majority of the time, the parents are keeping a safe distance and feeding the infant when no one else is there.
- Leaving it alone for another 2 hours while keeping an eye on it from a distance (ideally indoors) to see whether its parents return is a good idea.
- Please keep in mind that if you bring in a healthy fledgling of a non-native species (for example, a Spotted dove or an Indian myna), we may be in a bit of a jam.
As a result, we find ourselves in the position of having to euthanize it.
But I’ve touched it, won’t the parents reject it now?
No. Birds have incredible vision, but they don’t have a very strong sense of smell. Because kids are able to observe other individuals around them, the parents are more likely to keep their distance from the child (even from a distance).
Can I hand-rear the baby?
No, it is against the law in Victoria for anybody who is not a certified caretaker to nurture wildlife. And B, hand-rearing birds is really tough – you’ll need specialized feed, feeding procedures, and housing to be successful. Take a look at our client portal. Take a look at our client portal.
