Perfect for a senior person
Iggy is a lovable, indepedent guy who is looking for a single person or a couple without kids. He would prefer a home as an only dog- or a home with another dog who is either of senior status or out of those "I want to play all day" mentality. Iggy is currently being fostered with another dog but he likes his quiet time. He would be perfect for a senior person looking for a quiet companion.
A little about Iggy's history:
Iggy started life at a local college as a vet tech dog. He lived there in a crate for about a year while they stuck him with needles and performed all kinds of vet tech experiments on him (because of this, he is super at the vet's by the way!). Iggy is not used to being the spoiled dog that he should be. It has taken us some time to get him used to sleeping on a soft bed and learning to go for walks. It's funny how mid-walk he will just decide to plant his paws and stop! He is not very food oriented so enticing him even with the yummiest of chicken won't get him to move again. His foster mom just has to keep that momentum going and he is getting better at getting the hang of his walks. Though, he does prefer "strolls".
Iggy was actually adopted from the vet tech school by a college student, but then passed on to another man who kept him for only a couple months. He was then surrendered to our rescue. He was adopted by what we hoped would be his forever home. Unfortunately an unsettled family situation and Iggy's increasing anxiety due to the events unfolding around him, the family had to give him back to our rescue.
Iggy is settling in to life in his foster home. He is housebroken. He is crate trained and shows no anxiety in there but he does prefer to be out of the crate. He is a smart boy and knows sit ,stay and is learning come.
He needs a family that is willing to show him that life can be calm and stable (no more bouncing around for Iggy!). Please consider giving this great boy his final and forever home!
UPDATE: Iggy is a pretty low maintenance dog. He is mostly content to cuddle and lay around. He is getting much better on his walks but still occasionally decides that he's had enough and lays down. Most times after a little pep talk he is ready to go again. He enjoys a regular routine and is content to be on his own while we are at work. He is a quirky guy but with love and patience he is a great companion.
One of his favorite "treats" is ice cubes. He jumps about a foot off the ground when he hears them rattle around! He has learned to sit and wait for both his treats and his food.
We know the perfect home is out there for him. Could it be you?
