We all love our pets and we want to do what's best for them. But we also have a budget to maintain, especially in this poor economy we live in! We do what's best, but we also do what we can. We feed them what we can afford. The most important thing for our pets is that we give them love, shelter, and veterinary care. Is the best quality food going to matter in the long run? Maybe. It might keep Fido or Morris with us a couple years longer. If we take care of our bodies we live longer, right? If we feed our pets a better quality food, they will live a bit longer, too. But the most important thing to them is love. To them, food is food, so long as it is coming from you. However, quality should play a role when deciding what to feed your pet. We have listed two websites below that take into consideration both quality and pricing. We hope this helps!

What should I feed my dog?

As a rescue, we are very fortunate because we get some of our food donated to us. (A lot of it we have to buy out of pocket, so we buy what we can afford at the time) So we tend to mix together a bunch of different brands and our dogs get quite the variety! However, as a pet owner, you may want to start your new pet out on the right foot (or diet). Here is a good website to use as a reference when choosing a petfood for your new friend. (BDSC does not endorse any of the following products, this is merely a reference for you to use when purchasing food for your newly adopted friend).

It is wise to stick with the 3, 4, 5, or 6 stars for dog food. You want food with NO corn, wheat, soy, by-products, or beet pulp listed as ingredients.

*Please remember, that whenever you are switching to a new brand of dog or cat food, to gradually make the change by mixing in the new food with the previous food. It is easier on your pet's digestive system.

What can you expect to pay for these pet foods?

 www.Petfooddirect.com

This site pretty much has all the premium and non-premium food listed. Their prices may not be exactly what you would pay in this area, but it will give you a good idea, at least.
