FOSTER UPDATE 2/13
Bear has been with us for a few days now and his true personality is finally showing. And what a personality it is! When he first came here, he was dealing with an overload. A long ride with new people, meeting a whole pack of new dogs, adjusting to a new home and trying to figure out if the people around him would be kind or cruel. Because of all that, it was natural for him to be a little unsure as well as feel like he had to "claim" his territory, and show his manliness, by marking. Naturally, if he were neutered it would have been much easier on this little guy but all those hormones kicked into overdrive. He was a little nervous meeting the pack but it never escalated into more than a defensive growl or a little snip which, when he was corrected, was easily stopped. After just a day or two, he started settling in and became a lot less obsessed with all the girls in the house, which also led to a lot less marking attempts. I made the decision to have him wear a belly band at times when he can't be watched closely and it seems to be helping tremendously. I've noticed less and less need to change the pad which means he is attempting to mark less and less.
And now for the really good stuff! This little guy is a heart stealer. He is so incredibly little and cute but yet a tough guy all in the same package! He absolutley loves to be by his people, even if it's just to curl up in a chair next to you. He sleeps really well in a crate (which is next to my bed). When it's time, I just pop him in, he curls up and doesn't make a peep until the alarm goes off in the morning. He also loves going out in the field with us, walks pretty well on a leash and the cold doesn't seem to bother him as it does some little ones. All-in-all this is one fantastic little dog. Once we get him neutered, which is scheduled for March 10, I imagine most of his house training issues will dissappear. I don't see him staying with us for very long, although that wouldn't be a bad thing either. I have simply fallen for him. =)
Here is our sweet Bear. He is still appears to be nervous at times, but he
is a sweet boy who really loves attention and being held.
He weighs 11-12 pounds (not sure what he is mixed with) and is 2 years old.
He is intact and the reason for surrender is due to his urinating in the
house (like we said, probably due to not being neutered). He is up to date
on vaccinations. I know he is going to make someone very happy one day once
the right home for him is found.
